Living in Laredo

With a population of approximately 240,000 people, Laredo is one of the fastest growing cities in Texas. Laredo is considered the “Gateway City” as the principal border port of entry between the United States and Mexico with approximately 15% of all NAFTA trade crossing through Laredo’s port in 2000. Approximately 14% of the workforce is in education and healthcare, with the top two leading industries of trade, transportation and utilities at approximately 26%; and government at 23%.

Laredo is home to three colleges and universities: Laredo Community College, Texas A&M International University and the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Laredo extension campus. Additionally, Laredo has two school districts: Laredo Independent School District and United Independent School District. Several private schools are also available.

Laredo is located approximately 150 miles from San Antonio, Corpus Christi and Monterrey, Mexico.
